Jávea: The Town That Never Stops Celebrating

Updated: Jul 12, 2024

Known for its stunning coastline, historical charm, and vibrant local culture, Jávea is the gem of the Costa Blanca. Let's dive into one of the most exciting aspects of spending your holiday here: the town's many celebrations or 'fiestas'!

These are the most popular festivities in Jávea:

Moros y Cristianos

One of the most spectacular events in Jávea is the Moros y Cristianos (Moors and Christians) festival, happening this year from July 13-21, 2024. This festival commemorates the historic battles between the Moors and Christians during the Reconquista. The town comes alive with elaborate parades, dramatic reenactments, and stunning costumes. The festivities include a grand parade where participants don intricate attire representing both Moors and Christians. Throughout the week, you can enjoy mock battles, fireworks, and lively street parties.

San Juan

In June, Jávea celebrates the festival of San Juan (Saint John), with the main event, Saint John's Eve, on June 23rd. This event is deeply rooted in celebrating the summer solstice. The famous "Nit dels Focs de Sant Joan" (Fires of Saint John) take place in the old town where anyone who dares can jump over fire for cleansing and good luck. There is also a grand firework display, illuminating the night sky in a dazzling array of colors.

Mare de Déu de Loreto

As summer draws to a close, Jávea celebrates the Mare de Déu de Loreto (Our Lady of Loreto) festival from late August to the grand finale on the 8th of September. This maritime festival pays homage to the patron saint of the seafolk. The celebrations in Duanes de la Mar, the port area of Jávea. include live music, sports, and a spectacular firework display over the water.
